Over 5 years ago, Last Stand hosted a well-attended forum on future possibilities for the Truman Waterfront.  Since that time, NOAA has developed their own facilities at the waterfront, but otherwise there has been little visible change to the area.  A lot has happened behind the scenes, but public reporting of any progress being made has been sketchy.

To remedy this uncertainty, on Wednesday, April 8 at NOAA’s Nancy Foster Eco-Discovery Center on the Truman Waterfront, Last Stand will host:

The Truman Waterfront: What's ahead?
A
Last Stand Neighborhood Information Forum

This forum, which is free of charge to the public, will run from 5:30 pm to approximately 7:00 pm, and will be followed by a reception with food and drink.  There will be five representatives on the panel. The three development representatives will each have 10 minutes for an update presentation on their projects, and the other two will make shorter opening statements.  Questions from the public will make up the rest of the program.

The five planned panelists are:

● Norma Jean Sawyer, Director of the Bahama Conch Community Land Trust (BCCLT) to discuss the Bahama Conch Village project

● Bookie Henriquez, Chairman of the Florida Keys Assisted Care Coalition (FKACC) to discuss the Assisted and Independent Living Facility project

● Doug Bradshaw, LRA Manager for the City of Key West, to discuss the City’s plans for the rest of the Waterfront

● Key West Mayor Morgan McPherson, to comment on these existing plans and to discuss other possibilities

● Ron Demes, Naval Air Station Key West Executive Director, to answer questions about the conveyance of the property and other issues of interest to the Navy.

Traditionally Last Stand’s forums are well attended, and generate lively discussion.  This topic is sure to draw a full house.  Note that the venue’s seating is somewhat limited, so attendees must get there early to ensure a seat.

The Eco-Discovery Center is located just inside the Southard Street and Petronia Street entrances to the Truman Waterfront.  There is plenty of parking available.
