Last Stand is
proud to have been a sponsor of the Florida Keys Green Living & Energy Expo,
which was March 12 & 13. The main expo was at Coral Shores High
School in Tavernier, but it included a few off-site events, including a
tour of an off-the-grid, energy-and-water self-sufficient home on No
Name Key, owned by Last Stand
members Mick and Alicia Putney. (Click on
the GLEE button at right to see the official GLEE website.)
The expo was dedicated to demonstrating sustainable
living through ideas and technologies that use and promote renewable
energy and water, and energy conservation. A few photos are below.
| A few hybrid cars
were on display, including the Honda Insight (top pic at right).
We're proud to say it's owned by a
Last Stand member. Below it is a Toyota
Prius.

Above is a Ford
diesel pickup truck whose California owner has modified
it to burn used cooking oil. A nifty demonstration
of what a little ingenuity can do. |

I've saved over 3,500 gallons of
gasoline and, based on $2/gal gas, $7,000 compared to a
vehicle getting 15mpg. Isn't this a painless way to
reduce our dependence on foreign oil? |

The answer to the
question "How fast will it go?" - As fast as I've ever
needed it to go on major roadways, including passing.
However speed reduces mpg drastically, so I typically
drive the speed limit. |
