Bird
watching on the water at sunset
Mother Nature smiled sweetly on us for our first mini-fun(d)raiser
on 20 August, when around 30 Last
Stand members and guests boarded the
Stars &
Stripes to learn more about our local bird life
whilst watching the sunset over the water.
Everywhere else in the Keys was getting washed with heavy
thunderstorms, whilst we had sunshine, a good stiff breeze and a
beautiful pink and golden sunset... we were extremely lucky!

Mark
Hedden, local bird expert and columnist for the Key West Citizen,
kicked off the cruise by telling us all about the various local
birds and migratory birds we can expect to see in Key West. He
also took lots of questions from all of the cruisers... from details
about white-crowned pigeons and barn swallows and
|
 |
swifts... to whether green parrots seen in one person's garden
were local or escaped pets (they were escaped pets!).
Thanks for joining us, Mark!
Don
Kincaid was our captain for the evening, and his crew kept
everybody's glasses filled throughout the cruise.
Delicious appetizers were provided by Waterfront Market,
Finnegan's Wake, and Paradise Cafe, and were enjoyed by all on
board.
As
the photos show, everyone really enjoyed themselves, so much so
that we will probably be organizing another cruise within the
next 12 months. |
A HUGE
THANK YOU goes to Don for donating
Stars & Stripes
and his captaining skills to Last
Stand for the evening, also to the eateries who
provided the appetizing munchies!
