Volunteers
Needed for Indigenous Park Hurricane Cleanup
As you probably know, Indigenous Park
in Key West got severely hammered by Hurricane Wilma. A lot of
city property was damaged by Wilma, and city crews have been spread
thin. In order to get Indigenous Park back into decent shape, the
city needs the help of volunteers.
The city has gotten commitment from
AmeriCorps for a group of their young and energetic workers
to be here to work on the park the week of Feb 23rd.
Americorps will be sending a group of young people to help, and
the City Landscaper and the neighbors and friends of Indigenous
Park are asking for volunteers to help that week.
Volunteers are needed to show up
mornings of the week of February 23, preferably with work gloves (and
stamina) to help with hauling brush, shoveling seaweed, and bagging
trash.
This is a great opportunity to see how
AmeriCorps works. It's a gratifying experience to
work with young and energetic citizens who are putting in "sweat equity"
to help communities, while earning money for education. Here's a
link to the
AmeriCorps website.
For more information, times to show up,
etc, call Cynthia, Key West's city landscape supervisor,
at 293-6418, or Sylvia, at 296-6054. |
