| For those
interested in the outcome of the June 16 BOCC item on the 970-foot
communications tower proposed on Cudjoe Key, the outcome was: no
outcome, item continued to July's meeting (Key West).
The item had already been continued from the May BOCC
meeting in Key Largo.
At the June 16 meeting, the attorney for Industrial
Communications & Electronics, Inc. (IC&E) announced that he had
"important breaking news" that would counter the revelation (confirmed
at least thrice by at least 3 parties) that the Coast Guard is no longer
seeking to build a 1,500-foot tower nearby. That revelation
countered IC&E's claim that their tower, if built, would make the Coast
Guard's new tower unnecessary. He said that the Coast Guard was
having a meeting "almost as we speak", and he expected the outcome of
that meeting to be that the Coast Guard would go back to saying they
needed a huge tower and that theirs would fit the bill. We shall
see.
Based on that, the Commission voted unanimously to
continue discussion of a possible settlement agreement at the July 14
meeting in Key West, at the Harvey Government Center.

history, and why Last Stand is opposed to the tower, see our
