| Monroe County's Board of
County Commissioners was busy at its May meeting. By deleting Tier Two from
the system intended to improve how vacant property is classified
according to its habitat value/environmentally sensitivity, they removed
much of the protection. This will make it easier to develop
remaining hardwood hammock and pine rockland in the Keys... and
essentially ignores the finding of the Florida Keys Carrying Capacity
Study that the remaining upland habitat in the Keys cannot withstand
further encroachment by development. This editorial is from the
