Criticism of Ed Swift not
limited to Last Stand
A letter by Nancy Cahill
in Saturday's Citizen characterizes Last Stand as a "gang" that "has
come out of the woodwork" to bash Ed Swift with regard to his suit
against MTV.
Your readers, including
Ms. Cahill, need to be aware that none of the individuals she named as
having written letters to the editor "bashing" Mr. Swift are Last Stand
officers, directors or members.
Ms. Cahill further
alludes that the Conch Tour Train was here before most of us (in the
"gang" she lumps us into) were. I doubt it. When I came to Key West, Mr.
Swift ran a pretty darn good little photography store on
Duval Street,
and I was a regular customer.
I'm president of Last
Stand, and I want to say once and for all: We do NOT disagree with all
that Mr. Swift does.
And please, everybody,
don't believe that everyone who criticizes Mr. Swift is somehow
associated with Last Stand. He stirs controversy among a much larger
population than just Last Stand.
Last Stand has taken no
position on Mr. Swift's complaint with MTV. To the extent that MTV's
production might violate zoning and land-use regulations and create a
nuisance, we would, if we were to take a stand, advocate fair
application of the rules. That would be consistent with our positions on
transient rentals, our helping to defend
Key West's
height regulations in the Watermark case, and numerous other issues.
Don't we all have better
things to do than name-calling?
