City fathers deserve a pat on the back when they do right.  This letter to the editor by Last Stand's President was in the Key West Citizen August 21, thanking Key West's mayor and city commissioners for doing just that.

Thanks for saving Salt Ponds fund

This is an open letter to Key West's mayor and commissioners:

On behalf of Last Stand's directors and members, I thank you so much for choosing not to take away the Fort Taylor Salt Ponds Fund during the recent budget hearings.

This small fund has been an essential catalyst in the Salt Ponds Acquisition Project, through which hundreds of acres of natural land in Key West have been preserved and brought into public ownership. Without that acquisition money, the Salt Ponds project would be dead.

Now we have a real opportunity to negotiate to buy the critical, last remaining private parcels to finish this project. Working together as a community, we can ensure that the Bridle Path, one of the most beautiful walks in the world, will be preserved for future generations.

President, Last Stand
