The last chance for the community to be heard on Watermark will be at this week's City Commission meeting.  Details on why the neighbors so strongly object to the out-of-scale and out-of-character project are enumerated in this letter-to-editor from the April 17 Key West Citizen:
Tuesday last chance to speak out on Watermark

Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Old City Hall on Greene Street will be our community's final opportunity to be heard on the Caroline Street Partners proposed project to be built on the site of the old Jabours Trailer Court next to Key West Bight.

At this meeting the city commissioners will decide the future of this property. It will also decide whether "anything goes" with future development in Key West.

If this project is approved by our city commissioners, it will send a "loud and clear" signal to both in and out of town developers that, as a community, we have no regard for the architectural standards of our historic city. McMansion condos will fill our sky.

This is ridiculous.

To get a preview of this potential reality today, walk or bike down Caroline Street. Look at the building under construction at 715 Caroline between the old Greg O'Barry building and West Marine.

This is :

Ground floor = parking

Second and third floors = apartments

Pitched roof

Total height = 39 feet

The building that would be constructed behind it would be:

Ground floor = parking

Second and third floors = condos

Fourth floor = penthouses

Flat roof

Total height = 40 feet

The building that would be constructed behind West Marine would be:

Ground floor = parking

Second and third floors = condos

Fourth floor = penthouses

Flat roof

Total height = 43 feet

These are not small buildings. They are large, larger and largest.

Please come to this meeting. The city commissioners need to hear from the citizens that these developers need to follow the existing rules on the books, not abandon these rules in the face of money and lawyers.

Please go and look for yourself at how big a conforming building is.

Then imagine two non-conforming buildings behind it with an extra floor of penthouses with flat roofs.

Come to this meeting Tuesday night. This is our last chance to be heard.
