Wisteria Island Development Off The Table --- For Now

The owners/developers of the proposed Wisteria Island development have withdrawn their application.  That doesn't mean it's over -- it just means that it is over for now.  No doubt the Key West City Commission's unanimous vote Tuesday night to recommend to the County against the development prompted the withdrawal.  Bad ideas die a slow death, so look for the proposed development to come back at some future time.  From the July 21 Key West Citizen:

Developers drop Wisteria project for now

The developers seeking to build a resort on Wisteria Island have temporarily withdrawn their application for the project.

The move came this morning, after the Key West City Commission on Tuesday night unanimously passed a resolution opposing a hotel and residential project on the island.

The Monroe County Commission was slated to vote on the project today, but the developers told the commission they were withdrawing the project for now.

They said they intend to bring the project back sometime in the future.
