We are a membership organization and members are our foundation. Please join us. Our vision is to protect the Keys' Quality of Life (with emphasis on the natural environment) from pollution and unwise developments and practices.
Last Stand can be visualized as a roundtable of environmentally-conscious citizens. This roundtable has an umbrella which represents our custom of working with other groups which emerge to fight specific environmental abuses ranging from neighborhood issues to the restoration of the Everglades and the Coral Reef. We believe in coalitions to increase the power of the people. The roundtable happens twice monthly at the Board of Directors Meeting, on the MONDAY before the first and third Tuesdays, at 5:30 pm. (Note that means when the 1st is on Tuesday, the meeting is on the last day of the preceding month!) For the foreseeable future, we are meeting in the conference room at the Visiting Nurses Association/Hospice office at 1319 William Street in Key West. Last Stand members are always welcome at Board meetings.
Directors are nominated by committee and stand for election (or re-election) to 3-year terms, by the general membership at the Annual Meeting early in each year. Directors lead specific-issue committees and/or monitor areas of community concern. All environmental activists are invited to apply for nomination; we are very INclusive. Often there are vacancies on the Board, and interested individuals may usually join (upon approval by the Board) at any time on a temporary basis, before they stand for election.
