WHY WE NEED DONATIONS |
|
Last Stand
operating funds come from membership dues, donations, and grants.
Our membership, though growing, makes up less than 30% of our no-frills
operating budget. Over 70% (more than $35,000) has to be found
through donations and grants.
So we're left with donations as the primary source of meeting our
operating expenses. Our board spends much time and energy in special
fund-raising events. Yet most of the time we give must be spent on the
issues for which Last Stand
exists. These include: nurturing a stable economy based on sustainable
tourism, the creation of public parks, environmental protection and
sensible land-use planning, working for cleaner water and clean-ups on
land, the promotion of livable neighborhoods, keeping missile testing
and oil drilling out of the keys, helping ensure fair and open
government, and conducting "Keys in the Balance," a series of
community-based debates promoting open, educative deliberation among all
interested parties on a range of issues impacting Keys quality of life.
In order to continue doing this, we need to appeal to all of you for
your donations. Please give generously. Your donation, whether ten
or ten-thousand dollars, will be more than repaid to you in the
protection and enhancement of life in the Keys you love.
Your donations are tax-exempt; we are a 501(c)(3)
organization. Thank you!
